The Strongest Demon Slayer Characters As of Season 4 (2024)

The hit anime Demon Slayer has arrived at its fourth season in the Spring 2024 anime season, and a lot has changed since Tanjiro Kamado's journey began. In a short period of time, quite a few Demon Slayer characters have been introduced and killed off, so the top 10 strongest characters tend to change often. For a brief time, fans counted Kyojuro Rengoku among the strongest, but then he died and Tengen Uzui was forced to retire. There are fewer Hashira to fill the ranks of Demon Slayer's top 10, but the same is true for the Moons.

As of the Hashira training arc, only a few key players remain on each side of the demon vs slayer battle. Tanjiro Kamado has gotten stronger than ever and so have his good friends Inosuke and Zenitsu, but those boys still have a ways to go before they make it into Demon Slayer's top 10 strongest characters. As expected, each side's most elite warriors make up the top 10 as of Season 4's start, made up of Hashira and the remaining Upper Moons.

Giyu Tomioka the Water Hashira has the honor of being the first Hashira and first slayer overall to appear in the Demon Slayer anime. When Nezuko turned into a demon, Giyu arrived on the scene, but he didn't show off his fighting style very much when Tanjiro got in the way. Later, Giyu gave viewers a taste of his fighting style when he helped Tanjiro finish off Rui.

Since then, Giyu hasn't said or done a whole lot, but his rank of Hashira still makes his prowess clear and there's no doubt Kagaya gave him that rank after he earned it fair and square. Still, fans are more intriguied by Giyu's tragic backstory than the number of Water Breathing moves he knows.

10 Best Demon Slayer Character Arcs, Ranked

Demon Slayer has plenty of great characters and while they are mainly sword-slinging slayers, most of them have great and complex arcs.

Mitsuri Kanroji played a major role in the Swordsmith Village story arc along with Muichiro Tokito, which gave them a chance to show off what they can really do. First, Mitsuri charmed fans as a kindly big sister figure for Nezuko and leaped into action against Hantengu, the Upper Moon 4.

Mitsuri combined her well-honed skills with her immense strength and whip-like Nichirin sword to fight on par with an Upper Moon, which is impressive. She didn't land the final blow against Hantengu's final form, but she didn't need to, either. Mitsuri simply kept pace with her mighty opponent for quite some time until Tanjiro finally slew Hantengu's real body to end the fight as dawn broke.

Kokushibo

"Someone's Dream"

Ryotaro Okiayu

Jonah Scott

Demon Slayer anime fans have not yet seen the demon Kokushibo in action, but his rank speaks for itself. Akaza terrified fans when he arrived as the Upper Moon 3 in the Mugen Train movie, but Kokushibo is even stronger than that as the peerless Upper Moon 1. He is the strongest demon alive aside from the demon king Muzan Kibutsuji himself.

Unlike his fellow Moons, Kokushibo actually looks like a demon slayer to some extent, including his robed outfit and his sword, making him blur the line a bit between both sides of the war. He also has six eyes, suggesting that he has incredible vision and can track any move the enemy might make.

7 Sanemi Shinazugawa is Rough, But He Knows His Stuff

Sanemi Shinazugawa

"Master of the Mansion"

Tomokazu Seki

Kaiji Tang

Sanemi Shinazugawa the Wind Hashira made a rough first impression when he hotly objected to Tanjiro bringing his demon sister Nezuko to the Corps headquarters. In fact, he tempted Nezuko with his blood to prove that Nezuko is a monster, but it didn't work. Since then, Sanemi and Tanjiro have been on bad terms, and Sanemi doesn't get along with his brother Genya, either.

Still, Sanemi can deliver when the Corps needs him to. He has clearly earned his rank as Hashira, being a quick and vicious swordsman who can easily swat aside groups of other slayers all by himself while training. Not even Tanjiro can handle Sanemi's moves, building up a collection of nasty bruises from hours of training with the Wind Hashira. Right now, Sanemi seems to think that only Muichiro and Obanai are his equals.

10 Best Female Demon Slayer Characters, Ranked

Though characters like Tanjiro and Zenitsu may be popular in Demon Slayer, the anime series has plenty of great female characters as well.

The progenitor of all demons, Muzan Kibutsuji stands as the most powerful demon and likely the most formidable character in the entire franchise. He can rapidly regenerate his flesh and has a deadly combat form, and his mere presence can easily intimidate various Moons. However, Muzan rarely does his dirty work himself.

Instead, Muzan is content to remain in his Infinity Castle, sending the Moons to track down the blue spider lily to cure him of his demonic condition. Muzan has zeroed in on Nezuko Kamado, the first demon to overcome the sun, and he is determined to capture her at any cost while ignoring the rest of humanity and demon-kind. The stakes are high in Season 4, with or without Muzan fighting the Demon Slayer Corps in person.

5 Muichiro Tokito is Ready to Fight With His Demon Slayer Mark

Character Name

Japanese Voice Actor

English Voice Actor

Muichiro Tokito

"Against Corps Rules"

Kengo Kawanishi

Griffin Burns

Along with Mitsuri, the Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito impressed Demon Slayer fans with his performance in Season 3. While Mitsuri helped Tanjiro fight Hantengu, Muichiro ended up battling the Upper Moon 5, Gyokko, all on his own. Muichiro struggled at first, but then he activated his demon slayer mark to finish the job solo, an incredible accomplishment.

Muichiro outperformed both Kyojuro Rengoku and Tengen Uzui, defeating an Upper Moon and remaining in fighting shape after the fact. He is clearly a prodigious young slayer with immeasurable skill. Best of all, he is now friendly with Tanjiro Kamado, meaning he is likely to keep supporting Tanjiro and Nezuko as the final battle begins.

4 Akaza Longs For Vengeance Against Tanjiro

Character Name

Debut Episode

Japanese Voice Actor

English Voice Actor

Akaza

"Akaza"

Akira Ishida

Lucien Dodge

The Upper Moon 3, Akaza, made a powerful impression when he burst onto the scene right after Enmu's defeat. His fighting style is basic compared to that of the other Moons, using martial arts to pummel his foes into oblivion โ€“ and it's highly effective. He calls his style Destructive Death, which is aptly named. He can also regenerate his flesh with astonishing speed to outlast his enemies.

Akaza fought and defeated Kyojuro Rengoku to demonstrate his overwhelming power, and he even shrugged off having Tanjiro's thrown sword impale his chest. Akaza is determined to get even against Tanjiro for both the sword strike and the harsh words, so their rematch is all but guaranteed in Demon Slayer Season 4.

Demon Slayer Cast and Character Guide

The Kamado family may be one of the most important in Demon Slayer, but Tanjiro and Nezuko receive assistance from Hashira like Shinobu Kocho.

Obanai Iguro is the Serpent Hashira, and not just because he keeps a pet snake around. His fighting style is based on flexibility and elegant moves, allowing his blade to snake its way through any obstacles to hit the target. This helped inspire his brutal yet effective training regimen in the Hashira training arc, challenging Tanjiro to strike with fluid precision like a serpent.

Obanai has not yet been seen fighting anyone outside of training matches in Demon Slayer, but his skills are clear for all to see, and his style is quite impressive. He is also part of an exclusive training club with Sanemi and Muichiro, pushing each other to the limit with their moonlit sparring sessions as high-tier equals.

Doma

"Someone's Dream"

Mamoru Miyano

The Upper Moon 2, known simply as Doma, made an odd impression on anime fans when he made his debut in Episode 45. He was relaxed and goofy during the Upper Moon meeting, which clearly annoyed his fellow Moons, but he evidently didn't care. He also quickly regenerated his head after his unfriendly rival Akaza tore him apart.

Demon Slayer fans will soon see Doma's fighting style as one of Muzan's most elite minions, which includes the use of two metal war fans that he carries around. Fans will also see what role he personally plays with the Insect Hashira Shinobu Kocho, which may lead to a fated rematch between the two of them before long.

It is said that the current #1 Hashira is the towering Stone Hashira, Gyomei Himejima, who has a monk-like outfit and persona complete with a necklace of giant beads. Gyomei is the Corps' single best hope against Muzan with his incredible prowess, but ideally, he will rely on teamwork and the power of friendship and not try to take care of everything alone.

Based on his training style, Gyomei favors inner peace and stability to match his outward strength and endurance, and his fighting style might reflect that. Most importantly, he taught Genya Shinazugawa how to embrace his half-other powers and fight without having ever learned a conventional breathing style.
