2024 Ford Expedition: A Comprehensive Guide On Features, Specs, And Pricing
The Ford Expedition remains a strong competitor in the full-sized SUV class even though not much has changed for 2024.
The Ford Expedition Boasts A powerful Yet Economical Engine
The Ford Expedition is available in no less than 10 trim levels, with the entry-level XL STX trim starting at $55,630 MSRP. This makes Ford one of the few manufacturers to offer a full-size SUV for under $60,000.
The full-size Ford Expedition is powered by a powerful 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine that is capable of producing 380 horsepower on the lowest trims. Ford's 10-speed automatic transmission is used in tandem with this engine and can drive either the rear or all four wheels. The engine is part of the EcoBoost lineup, meaning that Ford lowered the displacement of the engine while keeping its power output high. This has been done for both environmental and performance reasons.

The Ford Expedition Is Also Capable Off-Road

The Expedition SUV also boasts various drive modes, ranging from the Normal mode to Mud/Ruts/Grass/Gravel/Snow. These different modes ensure that the Expedition's software adjusts the SUV's throttle response and torque delivery accordingly, to achieve optimal traction.
The Timberline trim level is the most off-road Expedition in the line-up, but this trim has a starting MSRP of $71,805. This guise benefits from the same powerplant, but this time slightly tuned to achieve 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque, power which is sent to all four wheels via the same transmission. While this trim is impressive, it boasts the worst fuel economy (17 MPG average) and a smaller fuel tank (23.2 gallons), meaning that this full-size SUV will only achieve a maximum fuel range of 393 miles.

The Most Affordable Full-Size SUV To Offer Three-Row Seats As Standard
Despite its age, the value-packed Nissan Armada has a few key things going for it, one of which is a standard third-row
Interior Technology And Comfort
As you can imagine, all 10 of the Expedition trims offer a different and unique experience, both outside and inside. One thing is certain about the Expedition; you will never be left wanting for more space. There are different seating options for different trims, but you can sit up to eight people in the SUV. The middle row can be equipped with either a three-seat bench or two comfortable captains' chairs.
Ford paid attention to even the third row of seats, giving it the option to equip them with a power recline. The second row of seats allows for easy access via the tip-and-slide functionality, though, so this option is not necessary. There are various seat options, spanning from cloth, genuine leather or even ActiveX synthetic leather.
The latter is an easy-to-clean option that is only available for the XLT and Timberline trim levels. Active Motion Massage is also available, but only at the highest trim level, namely the Platinum. To top it all off, there is a Panoramic Vista Roof that is available, opening up the interior through a twin-paneled sky glass that spans over the first two rows of the SUV.
The Expedition Does Not Lack Technology
This segment of the market has become tech-heavy, so it should be no surprise that the Ford Expedition is equipped to the teeth with the latest features. The standard eight-inch digital cluster gauge can be upgraded to a 12.4-inch full digital in the higher trims, optional on Timberline and Limited, and standard on King Ranch and Platinum.
The Infotainment screen is a 15.5-inch vertical setup running Ford's SYNC 4 software. The larger screen is used in other Ford vehicles, namely the Mustang Mach E and the F-150.
A six-speaker sound system comes as standard, but Ford offers an upgrade with either a 12-speaker or a 22-speaker sound system powered by Bang & Olufsen, including a subwoofer in the rear of the car. There is also plenty of connectivity for phones and other electrical devices, having six USB-C ports scattered throughout the SUV, along with a Qi wireless charging pad in the front row.

The Jeep Wagoneer brings stiff competition to a segment where bigger and more capable is better, and it excels at these things well.
Safety And Reliability Of The 2024 Ford Expedition
The Ford Expedition comes with various standard safety features, such as dual-stage front airbags, front side impact airbags, and even a safety Canopy airbag that extends to the third row. Of course, the full-size SUV comes with Anti-lock breaks and Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking as standard too.
Driver Assistance Features
Just like with technology, there is no shortage of Driver Assist features in the Expedition. To start with, Blind Spot Information sensors come as standard on all the trims, being able to detect even rear cross-traffic. If there is a heavier and bigger trailer that is being towed behind the Expedition, the system will take into account the length of the trailer, making it easier and safer to tow bigger loads. Being a big car, Active Park Assist Management is available - this can park the vehicle with minimal human input, as well as assist when pulling the vehicle out of the parking spot.
Cruise control is also available from standard, but only the basic versions of the software, as for the intelligent adaptive cruise control, you will have to upgrade to higher trim levels. Other driver assistance features include pre-collision assist, Pro Trailer Backup, lane keeping, and so on.
The Ford Expedition Is Also A Very Safe Car
We know that modern cars are made sturdier to provide better safety for the occupants inside. The 2024 Ford Expedition has aced the front crash and side crash, tested by none other than the NHTSA. However, the full-size SUV seems to only achieve an average rollover rating. This is because the Explorer is a bigger car, and as a result, its center of gravity is higher, making it more prone to rolling over than a regular vehicle. This isn't to say that the Explorer is unsafe, as the Explorer achieved a five out of five overall safety rating, an impressive feat.
NHTSA Safety Ratings
