Yesterday, a Thursday, saw thousands of people laid off in America. Thousands! Mostly Wave 2. As I was processing the numbers and companies involved, I remembered why Thursdays have a spike in layoffs. It allows HR/IT/etc a day to tie off any loose ends…and answer any questions the notified employee may have…Friday…and then start Monday reborn. 🎉Every company in the world was founded with one goal: to make money for the founder(s) and shareholders. Capitalism sucks some days…but it’s the best we’ve got for now. Friday, May 17, 2024Friday’s weekly LI job posting report. “Steady as she goes” is the phrase of the week. A solid 1.5 million roles posted in the past week And guess what else is holding steady: remote! A dismal 5% of all posted roles. The three types of friendships we encounter in our travels: a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Cathy Lim is the last one. She's the "I need to be bailed out of jail" friend each of has on speed-dial 😁 I share her post not because I am worried for an instant that we she will have trouble finding a new job...I share her post as a reminder to us all: none of us is safe! All these Wave 2 layoffs are making me a little queasy 😕 3,300 souls impacted. Many are hourly and probably not on LinkedIn. They need our help and empathy. Fellowship and community will get us through this storm.

Yes, the nation’s largest private employer had some layoffs this week…and has demanded RTO for its employees…but it is also hiring like crazy (!!!)….especially on its e-commerce site. Don’t spend another dime on “How to become a LinkedIn Influencer”…after 15 years, I have cracked the code. 1. Be beautiful by regional standards and post lots of glam selfies. 2. Work for a company where lots and lots of people/applicants want to join.3. Post content frequently. One of the above gets the ball rolling….two and you’re off to the races…and all three…oh my….you will be LinkedIn famous! 🎉 Then the question becomes…how does one monetize that? And the answer is: by charging people on how to become a LI Influencer. Duh!

I told you!! Relo is back baby!! Very cool on-site role in Seattle or Vancouver. Relo allowance available!1-800-GO-U-HAUL(Before the pandemic, I hired hundreds and hundreds of people at Activision and Disney who relocated for the roles.)
