Copycat Mrs. Fields Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe:
This copycat Chocolate Chip Cookie is loaded with buttery flavor and melted chocolate. Growing up heading to the mall was my weekend past time. Getting one of Mrs. Fields cookies was always my top priority.
This soft chocolate chip was served warm with a thick texture. This cookie is my favorite as it always had the perfect amount of chocolate chips. The soft center with the crispy edges made the trip to the mall worth it. Another delicious cookie to try is Snickers Cookies Recipe.
Now with my large family, I can now make them at home which saves me time and money. I love making this recipe for my family, special occasion and for bake sales. Simple ingredients make this a family favorite copycat recipe.
Ingredients:
- Unsalted Butter (softened)
- Granulated Sugar
- Brown Sugar (packed)
- Large Eggs
- Pure Vanilla Extract
- All Purpose Flour
- Salt
- Baking Soda
- Baking Powder
- Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
How to Make Mrs. Fields Chocolate Chip Cookies:
- Step 1 – Combine Wet Ingredients – In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, sugar, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla extract with a stand up mixer or hand held mixer.
- Step 2 – Combine Dry Ingredients – In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda.
- Step 3 – Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients together – On low speed, add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and beat together until just combined. Be careful not to over mix.
- Step 4 – Stir in Chocolate Chips – Mix the chocolate chips into the cookie dough.
- Step 5 – Chill Cookie Dough – Refrigerate the cookie dough for at least 1 hour. This will keep the cookies from getting flat.
- Step 6 – Heat Oven – Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Step 7 – Scoop Cookie Dough – Use a large cookie scoop, ¼ cup measuring cup or roll the cookie dough into balls that are approximately the size of golf balls. Place them on a baking sheet approximately 2 inches apart.
- Step 8 – Bake Cookies – Bake in the oven for 10-13 minutes until the edges are golden brown. Be careful not to over cook. The cookies will continue to cook as they sit.
- Step 9 – Serve and Enjoy – Remove the cookies from the oven. Let them rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. Then move them to wire racks to cool completely.
Do I have to Chill the Dough?
Yes, we recommend chilling the dough. This helps to create a thick texture cookie. It also prevents the cooking from spreading while baking.
Tips for Making Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies:
- Room Temperature Ingredients – We recommend starting with softened butter to make this recipe. It blends with the other ingredients so no lumps are in the batter.
- Mixing Ingredients – For best results, use a stand mixer or a hand help mixer to mix the ingredients.
- Large Scoops – To make these closely resemble Mrs. Fields cookies, scoop about ¼ cup of the dough to form the dough. They need to be the size of a golf ball.
- Baking Cookies – Bake cooking until golden brown. Make sure to not over cooke the cookies. The cookies will finish cooking while on the baking sheet after removing from the oven.
- Prepare Baking Sheets –Parchment paper makes clean up easy and helps the cookies to bake evenly without spreading a bunch.
How to Store:
Store leftover cookies in an airtight container for up to 1 week. Keep a piece of bread in the container with the cookies to keep them soft and to stay fresh.
Can I Freeze Chocolate Chip Cookies?
These Chocolate Chip Cookies freeze well and there are two options you can choose from. You can freeze the dough which is the method we prefer or freeze cookie after baking.
After forming the dough balls, flash freeze on a baking sheet for 1 to 2 hours. Then freeze in bags or freezer containers until ready to bake.
This method makes it super easy to enjoy fresh baked cookies any day of the week. Just note that frozen cookies will need a few extra minutes to bake.
The other option is to freeze the cookies after they are baked. Place parchment paper in between the layers when freezing. You can use a freezer container or bag and freeze up to 3 months.

How to warm up:
There is nothing better than a warm chocolate chip cookie. If you prefer to have fresh from the oven chocolate chip cookies, follow these tips.
- Microwave – Place the chocolate chip cookie on a microwave safe plate and microwave for about 10 seconds.
- Oven or Air Fryer – If you prefer your cookie to have a crispy edges, I recommend placing in the oven or air fryer. Heat the oven or air fryer to about 325 degrees and heat for about 2 minutes.
Can I add in Mix-ins?
Yes, you can definitely change this recipe to what you have on hand. We used semi-sweet chocolate chips, but you can easily use dark chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips.
Add in sprinkles or nuts to make this cookie recipe your own.
