Stay safe this Halloween with Nextdoor’s Treat Map

C.O.P. Officer Eric Mericle from Lima Police Department · 23 Oct 19

Neighbors,
Who’s ready for Halloween? We wanted to share a great way to help keep everyone safe, share how you plan to celebrate, and see who’s participating in the neighborhood.
Nextdoor offers an interactive Halloween Treat Map which allows you to see who will be hosting a haunted house or passing out candy or non-food treats for kids with food allergies.
To participate:
1. Visit the Treat Map at https://nextdoor.com/treat_map. Mark your home with a candy corn, teal pumpkin, or haunted house depending on how you plan to celebrate.
2. Encourage your neighbors and friends to add their home to the Treat Map so you’ll know exactly who is handing out treats or hosting a haunted house.
3. On Halloween night, take the Treat Map on the go with you to find the best streets for treats.
Remember to bring a flashlight for when it gets dark and try your best to use sidewalks and crosswalks to avoid cars. Avoid candy that has loose wrappings, is completely unwrapped, has puncture holes, or is homemade and not factory-wrapped.
Wishing everyone a fun Halloween! BOO safe out there.

Nextdoor is the free private social network for your neighborhood community. Over 204,000 communities across the U.S. are using Nextdoor to strengthen their neighborhoods. nextdoor.com

Don't become a statistic this New Years Eve

C.O.P. Officer Eric Mericle from Lima Police Department · 31 Dec 18

Lima Police Department - 130 Crime and Safety updates — Nextdoor (8)

Hi Neighbors,
New Years Eve is upon us. As you’re planning your celebration, take into consideration that between 6 p.m. on December 31 and 6 a.m. on January 1 are the most dangerous hours of the year to drive or ride in a car on our nation’s roadways. If possible, avoid being on the road during that window of time.
If your celebrations this year will include alcohol, follow these tips to ensure you have a safe start to 2019:
1. Make a plan ahead of time. Don't wait until you've started drinking to figure out how you're going to get home.
2. Never get in the car with a driver who has been drinking. Even one alcoholic beverage can impair his or her ability to drive safely.
3. Make sure friends and family who celebrate with you have a safe ride home, or invite them to sleep on your couch or spare bed.
4. Plan to call a taxi or use a ride sharing service such as Uber or Lyft to help you get home safely.
5. If you wake up early on New Year’s Day after consuming too many adult beverages the night before, be aware that you could still be legally intoxicated and don’t drive until enough time has passed that you’re sober.
Also, if you witness a driver who you suspect may be driving under the influence, pull over to a safe place and call 9-1-1.
6. Do not use any firearms when the New Year rings in. Remember what goes up must come down. It is also against the law. The City of Lima Codified ordinances state, no person shall discharge any air gun, paintball gun or marker, rifle, shotgun, revolver, pistol or other firearm, or make use of any sling or arrow, within the corporate limits of the Municipality. No person, while under the influence of alcohol or any drug of abuse, shall carry or use any firearm or dangerous ordnance.
If you have any tips we missed, please respond in the comments. Have a safe and happy New Year!

Loud Music

C.O.P. Officer Eric Mericle from Lima Police Department · 18 Sep 18

I am curious as to how many people think loud music is a problem in their neighborhood. If you think it is, please let me know. Also tell if it is music coming from vehicles, a residence, or a business. This has been an issue for years and I'm wanting to know if you think we have got this under control.
